The Idiot is a novel by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, published serially in 1868–1869. It chronicles the journey of the kind and naive Prince Myshkin, a man of "positive goodness and beauty," as he returns to Russian society after being in a Swiss sanatorium for epilepsy. He becomes entangled in a love triangle with the "fallen woman" Nastasya Filippovna and the passionate merchant Parfyon Rogozhin, leading to tragic consequences for all involved.
